I wanted to share what our Street Department employees accomplished in the past couple of weeks.  A local businessman, Dane Miller, donated the bronze bas reliefs called “A Timeline of Liberty” and a bronze eagle to the town.  We had a vendor to design and produce the bases for the plaques.  Our street employees oversaw the placement and the installation of all the bronze pieces.  Our street department employees have assisted us throughout the greenway project and the installation of now 11 art sites.  The men are employees of Severn Trent (private contractor) and this work is beyond the scope of our contract with ST but they took great pride in this project and gave over and beyond.  We had two master gardeners in the community, Hal & Jenny Harting, to help with the flower garden (Jack & I helped them with the planting of the garden).  The design for the garden is a compass (as the timeline of liberty gave us direction; so does a compass).  A local artist, Jennifer Ortega, developed the design.  So if you are in the area, please stop by to check it out.  It is located at 1310 Park Avenue (in front of the Town Hall).  The art will have lasting educational value for young men and women.  Our democracy throughout the world during the past centuries is not happenstance.  It is a result of the ideas of a number of great thinkers and communicators who lived and wrote over a period of 25 centuries.  The eagle is not sitting but is in motion demonstrating to our local leadership to continually move our community forward.
